Try That in a Small Town – CMT Ban (Video)

“Try That in a Small Town” sung by Jason Aldean is #1 on the charts and has been banned by Country Music Television.

CMT has banned “Try That in a Small Town” for being “racist” despite showing actual news clips of ANTIFA and BLM rioting during most of 2020.  The left-wing faggot typically looks for reasons to be offended.  Well, if you’re going to offend somebody, do it in spades.  The fact that this song is number one speaks volumes as to where our country is now and does not bode well for the Democrats.

Opinions on the upcoming 2024 General Election:  the Dems plan to steal it in the same way they did in 2020.  Since then, nothing has been done by the GOP to stop ballot harvesting and the rigged voting machines of foreign origin.

With the rotten job Biden’s done if he wins (or whomever else runs) wins by seven million votes, expect hell to pay.

Britney Spears Slapped – What Happened (Video)

July 5, 2023.  Aria Hotel/Casino/near the CATCH restaurant.  TMZ video shows singer Britney Spears approaching basketball player Victor Wembanyama by tapping him on the back twice.  Wembanyama’s security team (namely bodyguard Damian Smith) backhands Britney’s face, knocking her glasses off.  Wembanyama’s and his bodyguards have stated that Ms. Spears tried to “grab him”.

FACTS:  No assault or threat occurred from Britney Spears.

Britney Spears

Victor Wembanyama is a foreigner on American soil.  He is 7 foot 5 inches and has signed on to the San Antonio Spurs.

Victor Wembanyama

Whether this is an assault & battery case would be up to the lawyers to decide.  Las Vegas police have decided it is not.  (Spears could still sue in civil court.)

What happened is this:  Wembanyama and his bodyguards didn’t know it was Britney Spears.  So, she was knocked away.  That doesn’t make it right.  This is common practice.  I’ve been pushed off by bodyguards.  The anomaly is this:  Britney Spears is the more famous celebrity.  Wembanyama is nineteen and was just signed to play pro.  Yet, already he is in the club.  The “my shit don’t stink” club.  Except, it does.

Britney, who’s been famous since the 1990’s, has suddenly been placed back with the “normies”.  How’d that happen?  The MSM has rushed to Wembanyama’s defense, saying Britney “slapped herself”.  The video shows otherwise, but who are ya gonna believe?  Them or your lyin’ eyes?

Question One.  Since when are black men allowed to hit white women in public?  Where are you, feminists?  There was a time when such behavior would end in a lynching.

Question Two.  What if a white bodyguard had backhanded Beyonce?  There’d be riots in the streets and a major outcry from the MSM.

Question Three.  What if a Trump bodyguard had done this?  This answer is so obvious, I don’t have to say it.

My opinion is that most normal men would want to be “grabbed” by Britney Spears.  Then again, these are not normal times.

Death Wish (Novel vs. Film)

‘DEATH WISH” – THE FILM

“DEATH WISH” – THE NOVEL

Most people know “Death Wish” from the 1974 movie starring Charles Bronson or the 2018 remake with Bruce Willis.  Like many films, it all started as a book written by Brain Garfield.  How do they differ?  First, it should be made clear that the many sequels (Parts II thru V) have little to do with the original.  Part 2 is the only one that resembles the first – just barely.  Likewise, the remake is pretty much a blood-soaked revenge tale which the novel is not.

Charles Bronson

Probably the closest thing to the novel is the protagonist Paul Benjamin, the last name changed to Kersey for the film.  Bronson is well cast, resembling the character’s description from the book.  In the movie version, his wife is portrayed by Hope Lange.  In the novel, she is already dead from the get-go.

Vagebond's Movie ScreenShots: Death Wish (1974)

Hope Lange

The film’s beginning doesn’t exist in Garfield’s novel, wherein, the Kersey’s spend a second honeymoon – their last vacation together.  The catalyst for “Death Wish” is a brutal attack by three thieves who invade their apartment, terrorizing Paul’s wife and daughter.

Death Wish (1974) Review |BasementRejectsMovie Review: Death Wish (1974) | The Ace Black Blog

The movie shows it all in graphic detail.  Remember, this was done forty-nine years ago and it still packs a wallop.

There is where the novel and film merge.

One major difference is Paul’s daughter Carol.  (Played by Kathleen Tolan.)  In the novel, her state of mind is one of gradual decline.  In the film, she remains a catatonic vegetable from beginning to end.

widescreen revenge: Death Wish (1974)

Charles Bronson, Kathleen Tolan, Steven Keats

Carol’s husband, Jack (played by Steven Keats) is a lawyer and a confirmed liberal, as was Paul.  Jack is content in letting the police solve the crime.  (They never do.)

Death Wish (1974)

Steven Keats

Paul (as in the book and film) goes through an eventual transformation.  Not satisfied with remaining a victim, he begins carrying a sock filled with quarters.  Using himself as bait, he is eventually accosted and Paul strikes back.  A young black runs away in terror.

Death Wish (1974) | Scorethefilm's Movie Blog

While in Tucson, Arizona on a job assignment, Paul buys a gun.  In the film, it’s a gift from Ames Jainchill (Stuart Margolin), a client who knows something’s wrong and gives him a push in the right direction.

The movie and book begin to separate, not in action, but opinion.

Garfield’s novel portrays Paul as being driven to near madness:  from grief and despair.  His first victim is a junkie needing a fix.  He shoots a man for attempting to rob a sleeping drunk.  He kills a man for taking a TV set.  None of these people attacked his family, but it’s his moral right to avenge them, or so he believes.

In “Death Wish” the film, Paul is the “vigilante killer”, NYC’s hero for killing off muggers who prey on the weak and helpless citizens.

Vincent Gardenia

The police, headed by Inspector Frank Ochoa (Vincent Gardenia) are after the vigilante , then decide that public sentiment will not allow them to arrest their new found crusader.  After a series of murders, the last where Paul is wounded, he is told to leave town for his own good.

In the novel, Paul shoots several teenagers for dropping cinder blocks on a moving subway.  This is witnessed by a police officer who lets him go.

In 1974, “Death Wish” struck a cord with movie audiences.  It was released  during the dogdays of summer when Watergate had dragged on for two years with Nixon’s resignation looming.  A very grim time.

If the ’74 version were released today, I expect it would be condemned by critics as “reactionary, MAGA-hat inspired, racist hate speech.

But what do you do when the police fail you?

We saw it all thru 2020:  a six month long riot the MSM instantly forgot about after January 6, 2021.  [That was a protest against a stolen election, not an insurrection.]  We are now a splintered faction of Communists, sex perverts, illegal aliens and freaks.  Real Americans have become disenfranchised, creating an eventual pushback coming your way.

BIDEN A.I.

From the above video, we see how artificial intelligence is able to create a video image of a human being to near perfection.  As of now, a few bugs need to be worked out, but how long will it take before gov’t techies are able to produce a lifelike video of Joe Biden – without the real Joe Biden?  (Consider the implications.)

As viewed, the commentator believes the video of Biden is A.I.  (Why doesn’t he blink?  Why does he appear so mechanical?)  The video had to be edited and re-edited until Biden’s handlers got the desired results.

The A.I. of Hillary Clinton is better than the real thing.

Belushi (1949-1982)

The Controversy Over Belushi Bio ‘Wired’ – Rolling Stone

È morta Cathy Smith, la cantante che iniettò la dose fatale di coca e eroina a John Belushi | L ...

Catherine Evelyn Smith, John Belushi

On March 5, 1982, between 10:15 and 11 a.m., comedian/actor John Belushi died from a combination of heroin and cocaine.  For the previous several days, he had been receiving injections from Catherine Evelyn Smith, junkie/dealer.  What led to it?

Despite being rich and famous, John Belushi was dissatisfied.  His first movie (Goin’ South) starred Jack Nicholson.  Belushi wanted to be respected like Nicholson and have the same clout.  Likewise, he had begun palling around with Robert DeNiro who had just won an Oscar for “Raging Bull”.

NEIGHBORS Original 1981 poster John Belushi Dan Aykroyd Cathy Moriarty | eBay

His last movie “Neighbors” is known mainly just for that.  It was his grand finale.  A disappointing dark comedy, it didn’t connect with the audiences that loved him for “Animal House” or “The Blues Bros.”

Belushi’s Next Feature Film (if he had lived.)  John was signed to do “Sweet Deceptions”, a story about diamonds, romance and how to steal both.  John, along with writer/actor Don Novello did their own adaptation and retitled it “Noble Rot”.  And everybody hated it.  The studio, his manager, his colleagues, everybody.  He felt rejected because he had based the main character (Johnny Glorioso) on himself.  Instead, the studio wanted him to do “The Joy of Sex” to be directed by Penny Marshall (of “Laverne & Shirley” fame.)  Belushi wasn’t happy about it, didn’t like the script, and felt Ms. Marshall wasn’t up to directing it.

Again, he would shift his attentions to another imagined film project about punk r0ck.  Belushi felt this was the new upcoming rage and wanted the band “Fear” to sing in it.  In this yet to be titled picture, his character would become a punker, dye his hair purple and do heroin.

John was entranced by method acting – his favorite actor being Marlon Brando – and believed an actor had to experience whatever the character was going through.  Belushi, who was already hooked on cocaine, took that fatal step towards heroin.  In those last few days, John’s friends and family knew he was out of control.  Dan Ackroyd and John’s wife Judy had plans to force him back to New York…in handcuffs.

Los Angeles, CA.  With no one to watch over him, John went a drug spree.

March 4, 1982.  Belushi has a discussion with Robert DeNiro, who agrees that taking heroin for a role would add believability to the character.  DeNiro, however, is spooked by Catherine Evelyn Smith, an on-the-fringes doper.

John briefly encounters Robin Williams.  John blacks out twice in front of Robin, who knows something’s wrong, but is reluctant to advice him.

LAST DAY.

Chateau Marmont – the end of the road for John Belushi.

Smith injects John with a fatal dose – the cumulative effect of the drugs coursing through his veins.  Exhausted, John takes a shower, complains about being cold, and Smith puts him to bed.  He asks her not to leave.  Smith hears him “breathing funny”.  This doesn’t stop her from leaving, borrowing John’s car and going on some errands.

Early afternoon.  Bill Wallace, John’s trainer, brings over a typewriter for the new script John plans to write.  The room is oddly quiet.  He sees John covered up in bed and tells him it’s time to get up.  No response.  Pulling back the covers, John is dead, turned dark purple, his tongue sticking out.

“French Connection” Cut

“The French Connection” (1971) won five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Gene Hackman) and Best Director (William Friedkin.)  It was a property of 20th Century-Fox until the studio was sold to Disney in 2020.  In 2023, the Criterion Collection would release the film edited.  Some blame Disney, some blame Criterion.

The scene in question.  “Popeye” Doyle’s partner, Russo (Roy Schieder) is stabbed while trying to arrest a black suspect.  Russo asks, “How’d I know he had a knife?”  “Popeye” (based on NYPD Det. Eddie Egan) calls him a “dumb guinea”, then says “Never trust a nigger.”  He continues on by saying, “Never trust anybody.”

“The French Connection” is based on the true crime novel written by Robin Moore.

The French Connection (book).jpg

This is censorship of the new woke Hollywood.  What has shocked film fans is how a major film like this is being changed for Gen. Z.  (God forbid they should be made aware there’s an unpleasant world out there.)

I don’t expect this will be the last time a movie is cut so as not to offend the white liberal.  (Blacks don’t give a damn.  They call themselves nigger all the time.)  What is concerning is how this will affect films of the future.

The Oscars (the Motion Picture Academy of Arts & Sciences) recently adopted a new rule wherein a film cannot be nominated for a Best Picture award unless they hire minorities and formerly disenfranchised members of society.  Tell me, have these snobs ever read the First Amendment?  If filmmakers are forced to hire people based on their proclivities, instead of their expertise, it changes the work itself.  The creation of the film is altered by hiring those who may not be qualified.  All they need is to be on the woke list.

“To Elvis, with Love” (Review)

Picture 1 of 6

“Every true story ends in death.”  Ernest Hemingway

TO ELVIS, WITH LOVE, 1978 (also known as “Touched by Love”)  –  A remembrance authored by Lena Canada.

Even after all these years, Elvis Presley remains a controversial figure.  His fame would eventually overtake him, but in his lifetime, he reached millions.  One of those millions was a little girl named Karen.  Karen, afflicted with cerebral palsy was left wheelchair bound and institutionalized by her mother.

The “Brown House” became the institution for a large variety of castoff children.  There, Karen would meet Lena Canada, a volunteer-worker who would help Karen find herself and some meaning to this life.  Lena, who describes Karen as a “wounded sparrow” does all she can to help draw her out of herself.  In time, she discovers that nine year old Karen loves music:  the music of Elvis Presley.  Karen treasures a bubble-gum photo of the King of Rock and Roll, holding it in her trembling hands, crying herself to sleep.

Lena comes up with the idea of writing to Elvis about Karen, who eagerly agrees.  After a month, there’s no response.  Karen herself writes a second letter and it is sent.

Months go by.  Karen and Lena’s hope fades.  They surmise their hero is too busy or that the letter was forgotten by one of his secretaries.  After seven months, finally the magic letter arrives.  The King answers.  Karen, seeing the letter, has a seizure, is given an injection and sent to bed.  But, it is the beginning of their pen-pal friendship.

Touched by Love (1980) par Gus Trikonis

Recreation of one of the photos Karen sent to Elvis.

In one of her letters, Karen remarks that she thinks she’s not pretty.  Elvis replies that looks aren’t important, it’s being real that counts.

Lena comments that there aren’t many celebrities, (then or now) who would take time out for their fans unless the camera is watching.  Her story would not be told until after Elvis’s death.

In 1980, “To Elvis, with Love” became a movie, retitled “Touched by Love”, starring Deborah Raffin and Diane Lane.  Raffin would receive a Golden Globe nomination.

Touched by Love VideoCover.pngStojo - Touched By Love (1980) DVD

Diane Lane (as Karen) really captures the pure essence of this sad, sweet, broken angel.  She is true to the character from the book.

Since 1977, a lot of lurid details have emerged about Elvis.  This book and film are rare examples of his humanity.

“To Elvis, with Love” remains out of print and the film version “Touched by Love” never made it to DVD.  It is available on Amazon Prime Video.

Jaime Foxx’s Covid-19 Vaccine Causes Blindness, Paralysis

Jamie Foxx hospitalised after 'medical complication' - Daily Post Naija

Is the threat of COVID vaccine hesitancy getting enough attention? | Penn Today

April 11, 2023.  Actor and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx suffered what the mainstream media calls a “medical complication” after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine for an upcoming film.

May 30, 2023.  Reporter A.J. Benza announced on “Ask Dr. Drew” that Jaime Foxx was left blind and partially paralyzed because of the side effects from the experimental vaccine.

Jamie Foxx's rep denies COVID-19 vaccine caused hospitalization

Virtual media silence existed until recently when the MSM is now being forced to combat Benza-Dr. Drew’s report as a “conspiracy theory”.

Foxx’s daughter Corrine has tried (unsuccessfully) to dispel rumors by saying her father was released from the hospital – – leaving out the part about him being transferred to a Chicago rehabilitation center.

Youmzain and the fourth horseman on Twitter: "@BurgerLab12 ...

CORRINE FOXX’S UPDATE HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE FALSE. REPORTEDLY, HER FATHER NEARLY DIED AND IS SLOWLY MAKING A RECOVERY FROM A BAD REACTION FROM THE COVID-19 VACCINE.

The media, in conjunction with corporate big pharma, is rewriting the story, claiming the actor suffered a stroke.  …But, what caused the stroke?

Benza and Dr. Drew believe the vaccine led to a blood clot in the brain.

Jaime Foxx’s “statement” on Instagram:  “Appreciate all the love!!!  Feeling blessed.”

SUMMATION.  Since it began, EricReports.com has been against any forced plan to vaccinate the public with this experimental vaccine (as fake President Biden did until it was ruled unconstitutional.)  I have not and will not accept the current Covid-19 inoculation.  In the final analysis, it is not safe.

While Foxx could have declined the shot, he was pressured into it for a new film titled “Back in Action”.  (It is doubtful he will ever finish it.)

The MSM has and will continue to push their plan to eventually force everyone to receive the “jab”, whether they like it or not.

The media black-out on what really happened to Jaime Foxx is obvious censorship.  If you don’t like a news story, rewrite it and call the facts a conspiracy theory.  A few years ago, singer Eric Clapton was also left with frozen, numb, burning hands inhibiting his ability to play the guitar.

It is my hope that Foxx, what’s left of him, makes a public announcement declaring the Covid-19 vaccine as unsafe.

Four Flies on Grey Velvet

Last in Dario Argento’s animal trilogy series.

“4 mosche di velluto grigio” aka “Four Flies on Grey Velvet” (1972) remained lost to home video until a 2009 DVD release by MYA Communications.  A pivotal extended scene (cut for American audiences) has been restored.

PLOT.  A musician (Michael Brandon as Roberto Tobias) is seen stabbing a man to death in a theater.  From the balcony, someone wearing a mask photographs the killing.  Is it a setup?  Or something more?

Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971) – MUBI

In keeping with Argento’s previous films, nothing is as it seems.  (“The Bird with the Crystal Plumage” (1969) and “The Cat o’ 9 Tails” (1971.)

‎The Bird With the Crystal Plumage on iTunesThe Cat O' Nine Tails (Special Edition) (Blu-ray)

Roberto tells his wife what happened.  She believes he is imaging it.

Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971)

Mimsy Farmer and Michael Brandon

Hirng a detective, (John Pierre Marielle as Gianni Arcosio), the mystery leads to a madhouse – – and flashbacks of a child being tormented by their father.

Roberto’s friend Godfrey (nicknamed “God’) loans Roberto a gun and ask if he’ll have the guts to use it.

“I’ll guess I’ll find out.”

WHAT STANDS OUT

Ennio MORRICONE - Four Flies On Grey Velvet (Soundtrack) Vinyl at Juno Records.

Soundtrack for “Four Flies on Grey Velvet”

First of all, you’ll notice an exquisite (the only word to describe it) score by Ennio Morricone.  All three of his works with Argento are a feast for the ears.  “4 Flies” is especially poignant.  During the production, director Argento and composer Morricone had a falling out.  Morricone said some of his music wasn’t being used.  This would be the end of their collaboration.

Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971) | bonjourtristesse.net

Mimsy Farmer as Nina

Mimsy Farmer began as a typical MGM starlet in the 1960’s.  (Ever see “Hot Rods to Hell”?)  This is her breakthrough performance.  She is almost unrecognizable with her white-blonde shock of hair and trimmer figure.  If you’ve never seen this movie, you’re in for the surprise of your life.

The pacing of this film is unsettling.  “4 Flies” isn’t as smooth as the two previous films, deliberately so.  This, along with the stark imagery, grainy 70’s look and that unmistakable Giallo-Argento feeling make this an experience that is lacking among current cinema.

Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971) | bonjourtristesse.net

As for the grand finale, a brief comment.  When your in a near-death experience, everything slows down.  Is it true?  It is.

Tragic End of Karen Carpenter

The Carpenter Family Secret Surrounding Karen's Eating Disorder

On Feb. 4, 1983, singer Karen Carpenter died from the overuse of ipecac syrup – a poison remedy used to induce vomiting.  The continual use resulted in irreversible heart damage.

In 1982-early 1983, friends thought Karen was over her mental illness, except for brother Richard Carpenter who knew her better than anyone else.  He didn’t buy into her “cure” and he was right.

Karen’s obsession with weight began in her teens, due to a negative article that described her as “chubby”.  But there were two events that may have led to her untimely death.

One.  Divorce.  Karen married Thomas Burris in 1980.  Rumors spread that this real estate financier had no money and that he refused to sleep with Karen.  Whether true or not, a failed marriage (with a husband seeking money) must have been a huge blow to her self image.

Two.  Her Solo Album

Pin on Album Covers

While brother Richard underwent detox from his prescription to Quaaludes, Karen embarked on her self-titled album:  a breakaway recording that could have been a new beginning for the singer…except it wasn’t.

When Richard heard about Karen’s debut, he wasn’t happy about it.  It could only mean the beginning of the end of “The Carpenters”.  Upon listening, A & M execs and Richard commented “There are no hits, no singles to promote.”  The album went unreleased.  This crushing defeat may have been the last straw.

Karen and Richard went back to recording two more albums:  “Made in America” (1981) and “Voice of the Heart: (1983), released posthumously.

It may not have made a difference, but not releasing “Karen Carpenter” was crippling to her new identity as a mature woman.  What do you think?

John Candy’s Last Movie

WesternDouble: Wagons East (1994) Şaşkın Kovboylar / DVD-Rip / Tr-Eng Dual

March 4, 1994, Durango, Mexico.  Actor John Candy is found dead, half-out of bed, soon before finishing the conclusion of his last film “Wagons East”.   Cause of death:  heart attack.  The movie was completed using a double.  Although his acting was not affected by his health or whatever was troubling him, a special horse was needed to hold him: his weight exceeded 300 pounds.

John’s last filmed scene  is when he’s hired as a wagon-master.  It was so effective, his co-star Richard Lewis wrote him a note complimenting him on it.  It is, indeed, a funny scene which ends with his co-stars telling him they leave at the break of dawn.  Candy replies, “Noon-ish.”

Drugs (meaning cocaine) did not kill John Candy who stopped using it after the death of friend John Belushi in 1982.  But, he couldn’t stop his excess smoking, drinking and binge eating.  On the set of “Wagons East”, he was seen eating entire chickens and pizza by himself.

Jim Belushi (@JimBelushi) | Twitter

At age 43, Candy anticipated and at the same time, dreaded his fatal heart attack – the same thing that killed his father when he was only five.

In 1991, “JFK” and “Only the Lonely” were dramatic departures for the actor.

JFK-poster.pngOnly the lonely ver1.jpg

“Only the Lonely” was a bittersweet love story co-starring Ally Sheedy (as a make-up artist for the dead.) It wasn’t the hit he’d hoped for.  That’s too bad because it tapped into the melancholic soul he was at heart.

For me, the best of John Candy were his years on “SCTV” (1976-1983), a satire on television and motion pictures.

Now on DVD, SCTV is well worth watching.

Following the death of Marilyn Monroe, the blonde bombshell of the 50’s, Welch injected a new sexual dynamic into the cinema.  She was capable of anything.  Her phenomenal figure (37-24-36) brought fame.

Early films include “A Swingin” Summer” (1965), “Shoot Loud, Louder, I Don’t Understand” (1966) and “One Million Years, B.C.” (1966.)

Television, being the small-minded medium it is, said all the usual cliches, (esp. about “One Million Years B.C.), but they missed the point.  Feminism killed off stars like Raquel Welch.  There have been a few others to a lesser degree (Farrah Fawcett, Bo Derek.)  Current actresses Scarlett Johanssen and Gal Gadot are contaminated with wokeism.  I feel sorry for today’s beta-males who don’t know any better.  You really missed out on a time.

The ill-fated “Cannery Row”

Worst Movie of 2023 – Skinamarink

This movie is a fucking piece of shit.  Do not be taken in by the 1970’s horror show trailer.  The only scary thing about “Skinamarink” is how boring it is.  Almost nothing happens.  I can’t believe I paid real money to see this.  It’s one of the few times I’ve ever walked out of a theater.  But, I saw enough to say that one hour of “Skinamarink” seemed like an eternity in Hell.

Reviewers who compare this to the work of David Lynch know little or nothing or about filmmaking.  Lynch is a genius.  “Skinamarink’s” director (Kyle Edward Ball)  uses grainy images to what effect?  The subject matter has to be interesting.  A doll stuck to the ceiling is not interesting.  You would swear the cameraman must be drunk or high, because most of the time, the angle is deliberately wrong.  The camera is pointed at the carpet, the ceiling, the corner of the room, at people’s feet and so on.

Supposedly, it’s about a dream (or is it?)  If it is, it’s a nightmare on how not to make a movie.  The plot involves children waking up to discover their father is missing.  Upstairs, their insane mother sits on the bed, her back is to the camera.  In between, the kids watch old cartoons on an old TV.  If this sounds like entertainment to you, have at it.

As I sat there in a cold theater with only one other patron, I found myself looking at my watch, wondering when it would be over.

Sharon Tate – Recollection

“Sharon Tate – Recollection” is a pictorial history of the life of actress/model Sharon Tate.  Written and lovingly composed by her sister Debra Tate, unlike other books, it does not mention the lurid event of August 9, 1969, but instead focuses on the positive aspects of the short, yet indelible image of a 1960’s icon whose life was cut short by a talentless gang of hippie psychotics.

Celebrity Deaths 2022

Van Dyke & Company (Funniest Show on Television)

Dick Van Dyke hosted and starred in this short-lived series back in 1976.  Lasting only 12 episodes, it still won an Emmy for Best Variety Show.  What happened?

The pilot episode scored big in the ratings, but in that brief half season, NBC would change its time slot three times.

Bob Einstein (later known as “Super Dave Osborne”) frequently appeared and was on the talented list of writers.  (Steve Martin wrote some of the first show.)

Today the show has become known as the first to give Andy Kaufman his first recurring role.  HIs appearance provides the most laugh out loud moments, his best line being:  “I don’t know if you’re laughing at me or with me.”

A large number of guest stars appeared including Mary Tyler Moore, Lucille Ball, Chevy Chase, Tina Turner, John Denver, Lola Falana, Bobbie Gentry, Hal Linden, Flip Wilson and Freddie Prinze.

Van Dyke & Co. crossed the line between reality, frequently interrupting the show with “Special Bulletins” which was discontinued because the less than hip viewers thought they were the real thing.  (The last bulletin was that a number of L.A. Rams players were being traded for Quasimodo.)

The “Bright Family” was a running gag about the dumbest family on Earth.

Van Dyke would mention guest stars he asked to appear who refused – then he would destroy their image.  (Throwing paint on a portrait of Dean Martin, crushing a statue of Nureyev.)

In the final show, Dick is asked to say goodbye, instead he does an abrupt turn and walks off.  Was this a message?

Van Dyke & Company is available on DVD.
