1983 film based on the fatal relationship between Playmate of the Year Dorothy Stratten and her husband/manager Paul Snider. The screenplay is based on the Village Voice article titled “Death of a Playmate” by Teresa Carpenter. It is the final film directed by Bob Fosse, best known for “Cabaret”, “Lenny” and “All that Jazz”.
“Star 80” is a near miss. At the heart of its defect is the miscasting of Mariel Hemingway. Back in ’83, much was made about Ms. Hemingway’s breast implants that she received for the role. These still don’t make her more like Stratten. Stratten’s voice and manner were different. In the film, Dorothy is portrayed as a nude model victim. She was more than that.
Most of “Star 80’s” accolades were received by co-star Eric Roberts who was nominated for a Golden Globe (Best Actor in a Drama.) He won the Boston Society of Film Critics award.
The story is told through interview segments (those from the “Village Voice” article) and flashbacks from Snider as he ponders his fate following the murder of his wife. It must be said – this is a dramatization – partly truth/partly fiction of what happened.
“Star 80” barely focuses on Dorothy’s other doomed relationship with director Peter Bogdanovich. That’s probably why the real Bogdanovich hated this movie. His character is barely there; his name changed to “Aram Nicholas”, a weak, cerebral man who is partially responsible for the end result.
The third man is Playboy founder/editor Hugh Hefner, played by Cliff Robertson. “Hef” is key to what make Paul Snider tick. Snider follows the teachings of “Playboy” as if it were the Bible. When he finally meets his idol, Hefner is turned off by Snider’s sleazy clothes and ingratiating manner. Snider is aware of it. He is aware the Playboy mansion celebrities can’t stand him. It drives him to madness that the girl he discovers is instantly accepted, while his is barely tolerated. While Dorothy’s star is on the rise, Snider is constantly pushed aside. His attempt at making money from a male strip club revue is stolen from him and eventually turned into “Chippendale’s”.

Meeting Dorothy at the mansion, “Aram” seeks to cast her in his latest film project “They All Laughed”. It doesn’t take long for a romance to begin.
Snider suspects she is cheating on him and hires a detective who validates his suspicions. While there are plans to win her back, things soon take a darker turn. Snider buys a shotgun for “protection”. He rants and raves to those who will listen to him that he discovered her and that Hefner and “Aram” have stolen his “Queen”.
The movie reaches its inevitable climax.
“Star 80” received mixed reviews and was not a box-office success earning only half its money back.
“They All Laughed” (1981) with the real Dorothy Stratten did worse. Distributors threatened to dump it. Bogdanovich bought it back and tried to release it himself. Not being able to compete with other film studios, he was driven to bankruptcy.

Why would he kill himself on July 12, 2020? “From Here to the Great Unknown” is unclear as to why. At the time, LMP had become addicted to opioids, prescribed for her after the cesarian birth of her twins. Like daughter, like father. According to co-author, Riley Keough, Ben was keeping his mental turmoil well hidden.
Shortly before his suicide, Lisa suffered from convulsions and withdrawal symptoms. Ben couldn’t handle it. As close as Elvis was to his mother, the same could be said for them.
The book doesn’t describe how Benjamin killed himself. By other accounts, Ben locked himself in the bathroom and shot himself in the head. His girlfriend tried to stop him, but he was out of control.
Lisa never got over it. Family thought she would die. For the first six months, Lisa thought she would die. Time doesn’t heal all wounds. What kept her going were the twins and a plan to speak out publicly on how to prevent suicide.
2022 was an eventful year. The movie “Elvis” was a big hit receiving eight Oscar nominations. LMP began to come out of hibernation.
On January 8, 2023, Lisa Marie appeared at Graceland on Elvis’s birthday, greeting and speaking with fans.
January 10, 2023, the Golden Globes. At Lisa’s final appearance, she appeared frail and gaunt as she balanced herself on Jerry Schilling’s arm. The highlight of the evening was when Austin Butler won Best Actor for a Musical or Comedy for “Elvis”. Lisa and her mother beamed with pride. After all the years, Elvis was finally getting critical recognition.
Last Day. Lisa Marie texted her ex-husband Danny Keough complaining of stomach pains; asking if he could bring her Tums. Her housekeeper found her collapsed on the bedroom floor. Her ex called 9-1-1. It was a heart attack – the result of bariatric surgery, a drastic method of keeping her weight down. Lisa was tired of being referred to as “fat” by the press.
She remained in a coma…until another heart attack. It was all over.

“Rust” (2024) which premiered in Torun, Poland, received limited release on May 2nd.
No matter how you look at it, this film will always be overshadowed by the death of its cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
PLOT. Briefly, a 13 year old boy (Patrick Scott McDermott as Lucas) accidently shoots and kills a man. The boy is sentenced to hang. Harland Rust (Alec Baldwin), the boy’s grandfather, takes the boy away in a desperate attempt to save his life. A $1,000 bounty is placed on their capture.
The film is overly violent and I’m not surprised somebody was killed on it. I said the same of “The Crow”, when it was released in 1994. Whatever you think of “Rust”, no film is worth someone’s life. Halyna is survived by her husband Matthew Hutchins and her son.
Because the film was incomplete at the time of Halyna’s death, Bianca Cline took over as cinematographer. It’s impossible to tell who filmed what. The church scene where Ms. Hutchins was killed was not filmed.
The murder of 1980’s Playmate of the Year Dorothy Stratten has become Internet fodder over the years. Killed because of a love triangle involving her husband Paul Snider and film director Peter Bogdanovich, people forget this was a crime that could have been prevented.
On August 14, 1980, Dorothy met her husband alone in their home to discuss their divorce. Snider was preparing a lawsuit against Bogdanovich for “alienation of affections.” Playboy’s founder Hugh Hefner had barred Snider from his mansion, unless accompanied by his wife. Bogdanovich was busy preparing to make Dorothy a star in “They All Laughed” (1981) and subsequent ventures.
Previously, Paul Snider, acting as Dorothy’s manager, had her cast in “Galaxina” (1980), a sci-fi spoof. He prepared a poster of her for mass-production that was turned down by Dorothy at the insistence of Bogdanovich.
Whatever happened from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. nobody knows for sure. Dorothy’s lawyer (hired by Bogdanovich) offered a $7,500 divorce settlement to Snider – chickenfeed for someone who wanted half her income, his own house and a Green Card.
Snider knew it was over and with nothing left to lose, he went berserk, raped her, killed her and then killed himself.
Months earlier, Stratten had offered to go back to Vancouver with Paul… to give up show-biz and settle down. But, he refused, wanting that big, brass ring.
Snider was warned by friend actor Max Baer, Jr. to get her out of the business of being famous. No one gets out unscathed. Stratten had told Baer that she didn’t want any of it – it was all Paul’s idea. Later, when it was too late, Snider told Baer he was losing her. What could he say? “I warned you.”
Bogdanovich blamed Hefner for rejecting Snider. But, why didn’t Bogdanovich go to Paul and tell him about the break-up?

Peter Bogdanovich married Dorothy’s sister Louise in 1988. They were divorced in 2001. Since then, Bogdanovich’s only successes were “Mask” (1985) and a role in “The Sopranos”. He died in 2022 from Parkinson’s Disease.
Hugh Hefner continued Playboy until his death in 2017. The mansion was sold and the magazine ceased publication in 2020.
They were married for a year and a half: the “King of Pop” wed “The King’s daughter”. Of her four husbands, M.J.’s superstar status reminded her most of her father…but, that’s when the similarities end. Back in 1994, the MSM called it a fake marriage done for publicity. And yet, they were both already famous. What was their raison d’etre?
As it states in “From Here to the Great Unknown”, Lisa wanted to “fix” Michael. M.J. wanted a child. What better gene pool than Presley?
In 1993, child molestation charges were made against Jackson. Lisa remarked in an interview that she never believed the allegations and that she would’ve hung him from a tree, if they were true. At the time, Michael checked himself into a rehab in Switzerland for his addiction to pain-killers. (Something Lisa could well identify with.)
M.J. paid his accuser $20 million to settle the case. On T.V., Michael said he was innocent. He told Lisa he was a virgin and that his relationship with Brooke Shields was fake.

In those final years, M.J. tried to break away from the record contracts. Sony owned him. On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson died from an overdose of Propofol, while his doctor Conrad Murray was in the next room.

Lisa could see that her dad’s health was in decline. Overweight and heavily dependent on drugs, Elvis would knock himself out and sleep for days. Guilt played a big part of it. The death of his mother Gladys was caused by her worry over him being drafted into the Army. The end of his marriage was caused by him refusing to settle down, refusing to change.

The head of the “Memphis Mafia”, Joe Esposito began CPR. Ginger pulled Lisa out of the room. Lisa fought hard to see her dad. She would see him taken out on a stretcher.
The end of Elvis would begin a new way of life for his daughter. She too would begin a singing career, take drugs, get married and have children.

(Some believe Pres. Kennedy was fatally shot by a Secret Service agent who accidently fired after the first shot. Was this meant to happen again and then called off because it would look too suspicious?)

Why would a photographer be using a special lens on his camera at the perfect speed to catch the bullet in mid-flight – the one that grazed Trump’s ear? It’s as if they knew this was going to happen.
Many have noted the different sound of gunshots; the rifle fire heard from the first three shots, compared to the last five. How many people were firing?
According to the video, the T-shirt worn by the man found dead on the roof doesn’t match the one worn by Crooks in an earlier video. Was there a second assassin who resembled Thomas Crooks? Was Crooks a convenient patsy?
In the video, Pres. Trump mentions that Crooks’ family is being represented by a high-priced law firm. Where’d they get the money? Did T. Crooks have an off-shore bank account?
It’s apparent that after the shooting, Crooks intended to set off an explosive device by remote control and then make his escape. How did he have the know-how to do this elaborate assassination plot? There’s no way possible a twenty-year-old punk kid could carry out such a plan by himself.
The mainstream media is good at playing dumb at what happened because they don’t want to admit those within the Democratic Party had something to do with this near-assassination attempt.
Since Trump took office, he’s worked at a breakneck speed, accomplishing more in two months than Joe Biden did in four years. Is it because he knows time is limited and that another plot is in the works against our President?

“Juror #2” marks Clint Eastwood’s final film before his retirement. The studio he works for – Warner Bros. – decided to give it a “limited release” in 2024. (It’s already out on DVD and streaming.) I’ve heard a few reasons for this. His last movie “Cry Macho” underperformed. Eastwood’s Republican leanings turned off some in the film industry. There are no major stars; Eastwood is the director. But, as we’ve seen recently, the woke “Snow White” failed at the box office, while “A Working Man” and “The Last Supper” (a Jesus movie) were #1 and #2 moneymakers.
If “Juror #2” had been released correctly, it would have found its audience. Instead, it will be remembered for what it is: the last picture Clint Eastwood directed.
“Juror #2” isn’t flashy or self-important. It tells its story in a straight-forward way, that is, what happens when a juror finds out the trial he serves for its the crime he actually committed. This is the entire premise. I’m not giving out any spoilers.
Star Nicholas Hoult (as Justin Kemp: juror #2) gives a slow-burn performance. He is the good guy who did the wrong thing.
Toni Collette plays the prosecution assistant D.A.
Kiefer Sutherland is Larry, Justin’s friend and lawyer who advises him to say nothing.

Worthy of note: J.K. Simmons (former Oscar winner for “Whiplash’) as “Harold”, one of the jurors who is a former detective.
Indictive of what I’m saying, “Juror #2” grossed well internationally. Here in the states, it was released in less than fifty theaters. I would surmise Eastwood’s enemies deliberately made sure it wasn’t allowed to become a hit in the waning days of the Biden Administration.
A multitude of theories exist to the meaning of Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, “The Shining.” What most people don’t understand is that Kubrick was inserting elements that would (or wouldn’t) be understood (or misunderstood) in time. He was making a movie to challenge himself.
THE COLOR YELLOW – ORIGINAL 1980 POSTER
The original poster colors were yellow and black. The color of the Torrance’s VW is yellow. Kubrick said, “Yellow is the color of fear.” The real reason was that during the Nazi regime, Hitler forced Jews to wear a yellow Star of David on their sleeve. Stanley Kubrick was a Jew.
HITLER REFERENCE
In the final scene, the last shot dissolves. For half a second, we see a Hitler mustache on Jack Nicholson and the date 1921 – the year Hitler became the leader of the Nazi Party.
AS ABOVE, SO BELOW
In the framed black & white photography, Jack holds one hand up, the other down. The “As above, so below” gesture used by Satanists in the Illuminati. Kubrick would go to greater lengths on the subject in “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999.)
AMERICAN INDIAN REFERENCES
It’s revealed that the Overlook Hotel was built on Indian burial ground. (This was two years before “Poltergeist” used the same plot device.)
When Danny envisions blood pouring out of the elevators, it’s because the ground underneath them contains the bodies and the blood of the Indians.
THE NUMBER 11 – THE SHINING – STANLEY’S KUBRICK’S 11TH FILM
Danny wears an Apollo 11 sweater – an obvious reference to the rumor that Kubrick filmed a fake moon landing.
CATCHER IN THE RYE
Mark David Chapman and “The Catcher in the Rye”
J.D. Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye” became well known as the book Mark David Chapman was reading when he shot John Lennon. Early in the film, we see Wendy reading it. Is this book a trigger? What’s so eerie about it is that “The Shining” was released six months before Lennon’s murder. Chapman explained his motive for the murder: to draw attention to Salinger’s novel.
ROOM 237
What is Room 237? It appears to be a portal to another dimension.
Both Danny and Jack have “the shining” (E.S.P.) Both enter the forbidden room.
After Danny is attacked by the woman in Room 237, Jack investigates. Once inside, he encounters a nude woman who kisses him, then turns into a cancer-ridden old crone. When questioned by Wendy, he has no memory of it.

When Danny and Mr. Halloran have a conversation in the kitchen, other worldly voices can be heard.
ABBEY ROAD clue

Many will notice the peculiar lineup wherein the four characters from “The Shining” all walk together in a straight line and how it resembled the cover to The Beatles album titled “Abbey Road”. (Their final record.) Was Stanley Kubrick and the Illuminati warning us of the connection between Mark David Chapman and Jack Torrance? (Trained brainwashed assassins.) Who or what made the fictional character of Jack Torrance go insane? Who or what made Chapman shoot and kill John Lennon?
FINAL SEQUENCE CUT
After the Shining’s premiere, director Kubrick would edit out the finale. The original conclusion shows Wendy recovering in the hospital. Mr. Ullman tells her that Jack’s body was never found. He invites her and Danny to his home to recuperate, then hands the mysterious ball over to Danny. Mr. Ullman obviously knows more than he is telling. Were the supernatural occurrences really a psyop to drive Jack Torrance insane? And by handing the ball over to Danny, does this mean he’s next?
