Definition of Stand-Your-Ground Law from Wikipedia
“A stand-your-ground law (sometimes called “line in the sand” or “no duty to retreat” law) is a justification in a criminal case, whereby defendants can “stand their ground” and use force without retreating, in order to protect and defend themselves or others against threats or perceived threats.”
In a mini-mart security camera video, a car pulls into a handicapped parking lot space, driven by Britany Jacobs. A short time later, Michael Djejsk pulls up along side her. Djejsk tells her to mover her car. Jacobs says she can park wherever she wants to. An argument ensues.
At this time, her boyfriend Markeis McGlockton exits the store and pushes Djejsk down. It appears there is about to be a beatdown until the fallen man pulls out his handgun. McGlockton stops and Djejsk shoots him through the heart. McGlockton staggers back into the store and dies.
Under Florida’s STAND YOUR GROUND LAW, Michael Djejsk is released without being arrested.
